Privacy Policy – PacScan

Privacy Policy for PacScan

Effective Date: 2025-06-23

This Privacy Policy explains how PacScan ("we", "our", or "the app") handles user data. We are committed to ensuring your privacy and respecting your control over personal information.

1. Personal Data Collected Locally

PacScan allows users to voluntarily enter and save the following personal information within the app:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Date of birth

This information is entered manually by the user and is stored only locally on the user's device. We do not collect, transmit, access, or process this information on our servers.

2. Local Storage and Encryption

All personal data stored locally on the user's device is maintained in an encrypted database. We do not access or back up this data on our servers or through any third-party services.

3. User Control

Users have full control over the personal data stored within the app. At any time, users can view, update, or delete this information through the app’s interface. No data is shared without the user’s explicit action.

4. Usage Tracking and Analytics

PacScan does not use cookies, analytics, or any internal tracking technologies. Your activity within the app is not monitored or logged by us.

5. Cloud Registration and Server-Side Data

Users may optionally register an account using their email address through our server system. This registration enables access to credit-based features and subscription management within the app.

The only personal data processed on our server is the user’s email address. No names, dates of birth, or other personal data stored locally on the device are ever transmitted to our servers.

When users delete their registered account, all server-stored data linked to that email address is permanently erased, except for limited data retained strictly for fraud prevention as described below.

6. Subscription Payments

For users who purchase subscriptions through app stores (Google Play or Apple App Store), PacScan processes the subscription status using anonymous unique transaction identifiers (purchase tokens, subscription IDs) provided by Google and Apple.

These identifiers are used solely to verify and update credit balances linked to your registered account. We do not receive or process any additional personal data from Google or Apple.

7. Fraud Prevention Data Retention

To prevent abuse of the credit system (e.g., repeatedly registering new accounts to obtain free credits), we maintain a secure internal record consisting only of:

  • The email addresses previously used for registration
  • The amount of credit previously granted to that email address

This limited retention is based on our legitimate interest to ensure fairness (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)), consistent with globally recognized legal standards for fraud prevention.

This data is:

  • Not used for marketing or profiling
  • Not shared with any third parties
  • Stored securely with strict access controls
  • Retained only as long as necessary for fraud prevention purposes

Users may contact us at any time to request further information regarding this process.

8. Advertising and AdMob

PacScan displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob when no active subscription is present. AdMob may collect and process certain data about your device and app usage for the purpose of displaying ads.

Before displaying ads, PacScan presents users with an in-app notice informing them that ads will be shown and offering the option to subscribe to remove ads entirely.

We do not collect or process any advertising personalization data ourselves. Ad personalization (if any) is handled directly by Google AdMob based on user preferences, device settings, Google account settings, and legal requirements in your jurisdiction.

Data potentially collected and processed by AdMob includes:

  • Device information (such as device model, operating system, language, IP address)
  • Advertising ID or device identifiers
  • Location information (approximate, based on IP address)
  • App usage and interaction data

We do not have access to or control over the data collected by AdMob. For more information on how Google processes data, please review Google's Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy.

9. Legal Basis for Processing

The legal basis for processing personal data under global data protection laws (including EU GDPR, UK GDPR, US CCPA, and others) is:

  • Consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR): for data voluntarily entered and stored locally by the user, and for ad display as consented to within the app.
  • Contractual necessity (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR): for managing registered accounts and subscription services.
  • Legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR): for minimal retention of email addresses solely for fraud prevention.

10. International Data Transfers

All server-side processing of registration data takes place on servers. AdMob's data processing may involve transfers outside your country of residence. Google applies appropriate safeguards to comply with applicable data protection laws for such transfers.

11. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights under applicable law:

  • The right to access your personal data
  • The right to rectify inaccurate data
  • The right to request deletion of your data
  • The right to object to certain processing activities
  • The right to data portability
  • The right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority

You may exercise these rights directly through the app (for local data) or by contacting us (for server-based data).

12. Security Measures

We apply appropriate technical and organizational safeguards to protect personal data. This includes encryption, secure storage, strict access controls, and regular monitoring. Users are encouraged to maintain good device security practices.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in technology, applicable laws, or service features. Updated versions will be published on this page with the effective date clearly indicated.
